| For your budding musician, Young Child provides a pressure-free, developmentally appropriate program where he or she can musically succeed before taking on more formal music instruction. In small, movement-oriented classes, your child develops their greatest instrument -- the voice -- while learning the symbols and vocabulary of music-making. Your child develops instrument-playing skills with the introduction of the glockenspiel, dulcimer | and recorder over a period of four semesters. Listening activities strengthen the ability to discern a variety of instruments and musical concepts. Through creative learning activities, your child begins to read music and to create musical compositions -- tangible accomplishments that instill positive emotions about his or her own musicality. Soon, a request of "Mom, I want to take piano" may delight you. |
Young Child Year 1 ages 5 - 6 years
Through imaginative learning games, creative movement, singing and dancing, children begin to read music notation and rhythm, create their own compositions, and learn music theory. They'll discover orchestra instruments, and explore works by Mozart, Beethoven and Prokofiev (Peter and the Wolf.) Vocal skills, pitch and rhythm will flourish. The glockenspiel (a metal barred keyboard instrument) is played using newly learned note-reading skills as well as Suzuki ear training. Rhythm and ensemble-playing skills are developed joyfully through playing percussion instruments such as drums, tambourines, triangles, guiros and xylophones with storytelling and songs.
